Indigenous Cultural Connections

Connecting Culture To The Incarcerated

Boozhoo! Welcome

ICC is here to give culturally based healing to the Indigenous men, women, and youth incarcerated through Traditional Healers, Spiritual Leaders, and Elders from the Three Fires Nations of Michigan, and other Nations from Turtle Island. We will work to incorporate Sweatlodges back into Michigan Department Of Corrections(MDOC), Reentry, Elder/Youth Connections, and bridging gaps between family members and those incarcerated.

ICC is Indigenous led, and peer led with lived experiences. We are here to foster cultural identity, reduce recidivism, bring hope and healing to the lost, revitalize the language, support recovery, and work towards family reconcilitation. In doing so, bringing social and economic improvement to Grand Rapids and the surrounding area.

You will find Talking Circles for Warrior Down, Wellbriety, and Traditional Talking Circle. Sweatlodge, Ceremonies, and Medicine Wheel Teachings. Recovery/Relapse Prevention, Reentry resources per individual need. Resources for Employment, and Health Care. We will focus on the 7 Teachings, Medicine Wheel Teachings, and Creating Healthy Forests, as referred to by Don Coyis publisher of White Bison Programs. Plus, fun stuff like Crafting, Drum, Song, Dance, and Gathering of Medicine.
